Forgetting what Anzac Day is for

Anzac Day is about remembering those who gave their lives to keep this nation safe.

Unfortunately, it seems while we have a good grasp of the first part of that sentence we kind of just mumble the second part.

Which means that the ultimate sacrifice is now being scandalously wasted.

Because there is no point whatsoever in dying to protect Australia when Australia is now living with this reality. From the Daily Telegraph:

COUNTER terrorism measures will be ramped up at this year’s Anzac Day march to mitigate hostile vehicles which pose a danger to crowds and marchers.

An urgent grant of $180,000 has been agreed to through a collaboration between the NSW Department of Justice, the City of Sydney and RSL NSW in response to a ‘probable’ terrorist threat level throughout Australia.

The funds will be funnelled into the provision of additional security measures for this year’s march, which marks the end of the centenary commemorations for WW1, including steps to mitigate ‘hostile vehicles’.

If we have to spend up big for security on Anzac Day, it means that every other day of the year politicians are making decisions that ignore the sacrifice of those who served.

Australians died to keep the enemy out of this nation. Now the politicians have let them in.

And we have to pay for it. In more ways than one…

  1. Don’t worry, next years ANZAC day parade will lead by the LGBTQI veterans……

I wonder how many of this years women leading the march used to be men ????
