Ladies living off a man’s world

Apparently, Australia’s male cricketers are bastards.

They’re unfairly holding back millions from female players. This is from today’s Australian:

Australia’s richest cricketers are refusing to share with our best women players a record $58.5 million bonus that will see seven-figure cheques mailed to current and former Test stars on the eve of an Ashes series now under threat from a protracted pay dispute.

The Australian Cricketers Association’s rejection of a Cricket Australia proposal to carry forward half the sum owed from 2012-2017 into the next pay deal means that women cricketers helping to grow the sport will receive nothing while a retired player such as Shane Watson, a member of the ACA executive, will pocket nearly $2m.

Now, I am fairly cynical when it comes to ‘professional’ sport and the big bucks that are thrown about. And a cricketers’ strike is simply unAustralian.

But I fail to see why a ‘profession’ that pays its employees on the basis of the revenue that they generate should all of a sudden start unprofessionally paying on the basis of gender.

Under current proposals, female cricketers will see their pay more double. Men, on the other hand, will see their salaries grow by about 5%.

We all know who generates the revenue. And we all know who is subsidising whom in this ‘deal’.

And no one can really be surprised that it is has been rejected.

Except the journalist going into bat for the ladies. He put out this tweet:

How long will the women players stick with the blokes?

I’d say the answer to that question is pretty easy: as long as the blokes are subsidising them…
