LOCAL GOVERNMENT CANDIDATE QUESTIONNAIRE

GOLD COAST CITY COUNCIL
As the lead Senate candidate for the Australian Liberty Alliance in Queensland, I have received many questions from Queenslanders about candidates standing for local government election. As such, candidates with email addresses have received a short questionnaire (shown below).

Each candidate's response (or non response) to these questions is also listed below for your information. Please note that this information is provided for your consideration only. The Australian Liberty Alliance has not endorsed any candidates for local government elections on 19 March, 2016.

If you wish to find out more about your local candidates or communicate directly with them, you can click on their names below to open the Electoral Commission of Queensland's candidate contact page.

Mosques

Many Queenslanders are concerned about Islam and its impact on social cohesion and safety. They do not want to see mosques in their local community.

Question 1: Will you oppose all development applications for a mosque in your local government area?

Funding of Islam

Many Queenslanders are concerned that government funds are being used to promote Islam, in the form of grants for open mosque days or Islamic religious events.

Question 2: Will you oppose any plan for your local government to provide grants for open mosque days or other Islamic events or activities?

Asylum Seekers

Many Queenslanders are concerned that large numbers of asylum seekers will be housed in their local community.

Question 3: Will you oppose any plan for your local government to declare itself as a ‘refugee welcome zone’?

Sharia law and political activism on Commonwealth issues

Many Queenslanders are concerned about Sharia law and do not want to see it established in Australia. A recent proposal by the former Human Rights Commissioner, Tim Wilson, regarding marriage put forward the idea that marriage laws should be changed to recognise all religious marriages, including Islamic marriages. This would result in the recognition of Sharia family law.

Question 4: Will you oppose political activism in your local council to promote the activist campaign to change Commonwealth laws on marriage, opening the door for recognition of Sharia family law?

Use of ratepayers’ money

Many Queenslanders are concerned that governments at all levels wastes money. This question is not about whether you believe in climate change, but about whether you will work to obtain the best use of ratepayers’ money.

Question 5: Will you ensure that your local council uses the cheapest form of electricity and that it does not waste ratepayers’ funds on climate change programs, which are outside the remit of local government?

WILSON, Jim             No response
ABBOTT, John   Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes 1. It is part of my platform to ensure that no mosques may be built and those that exist are far too many.

3.  I would make it known to the relevant Minister and the general public that we will not consider housing anyone that has not gone through the proper channels and especially those of a different religion.

4. On behalf on my community, I would do all that I am able to resist any changes to our present marriage laws (other than to accept divorce) and especially to recognize same sex or Sharia.

KWON, Daniel The Greens No No No No No Hi again Bernie

Just saw your updates and what has been published. I wish not to confuse your supporters or mislead any of your followers.

I thought I should write again to make clear that I was joking in my initial responses.

Obviously as a Green, I strongly support action on climate change, a safe-passage for fellow human beings seeking asylum, and a non-discriminatory approach to all religions. In fact, these are among the main reasons why I joined the Greens in the first place.

Again, I honestly didn't believe you would post my sarcastic answers, I was simply taking the piss.

With sincere apologies,
Daniel

HECKE, Mona   No No No Yes No While I respect your stance, I do not believe that all Islamic people should be denied their freedom of religion, however I also believe that any immigrants should integrate and respect the Australian culture.

1. I would assess each application on its merits and impact.

2. I am not aware of the specific grants you speak of and whether equal grants have been assigned to other religious organisations.

3. I would not automatically oppose any refugee intake.  This country has been built on multiculturalism which enriches the tapestry of our Communities.

4. I would absolutely oppose any Sharia Law legislation in this Country.
